arrowsmith program

The Arrowsmith Program is a groundbreaking educational approach that helps students overcome learning challenges by strengthening the underlying cognitive functions that impact their ability to learn. Based on over 30 years of neuroscience research and proven success, the program empowers students to improve their cognitive capacities through targeted exercises, rather than simply managing symptoms.

What is the Arrowsmith Program?

The program addresses the root causes of learning difficulties, allowing students to achieve lasting improvements in areas such as:

- Reading, writing, and mathematics

- Comprehension and logical reasoning

- Problem-solving and processing speed

- Visual and auditory memory

- Attention and focus

- Dyslexia and other learning challenges

Students from elementary school through post-secondary levels, as well as adults, have successfully completed the program. Upon completion, elementary students can return to a full academic curriculum at their appropriate grade level.

Our goal is to empower students to become effective, confident, and self-directed learners, ready to achieve their academic and career aspirations.

Who Can Benefit from the Arrowsmith Program?

The typical Arrowsmith student:

  • Is of average or above-average intelligence

  • Experiences specific learning challenges in areas such as memory, processing speed, or reasoning

  • Does not have severe intellectual, emotional, or behavioral disorders

  • Is not diagnosed with an acquired brain injury or autism spectrum disorder

How Does the Program Work?

The Arrowsmith Program is delivered in a school setting by trained educators and utilizes a combination of cognitive exercises designed to enhance various learning functions. The program is available exclusively through accredited public and private schools.

The exercises are provided in three formats:

  1. Computer-Based Exercises - Focus on improving logic, comprehension, numeracy, reading skills, and visual memory.

  2. Auditory Exercises - Enhance short- and long-term auditory memory, phonemic awareness, and working memory.

  3. Pen-and-Paper Exercises - Develop cognitive capacities essential for motor skills, written communication, executive function, and non-verbal communication.

Meet the Founder

The Arrowsmith Program was founded by Barbara Arrowsmith-Young, whose personal journey of overcoming severe learning disabilities inspired the creation of this innovative program. Diagnosed in grade one with multiple learning challenges, Barbara's determination led her to discover and develop cognitive exercises that transformed her abilities.
